TOP 10 Backlink Strategies of All Time

What’s a Backlink?

A backlink is a webpage link to another site using a hyperlink. They are usually colored blue, and when you click on them it opens it up on a new tab or window and redirects you to a new destination.

The more backlinks a webpage has, the more popular it is in Google’s eyes. We can think of Backlinks as votes. The more votes you have; the better chance you have at ranking.

Types of Backlinks:

Good Backlinks – a link that is obtained from a genuine website with a good reputation with the websites hyperlink.

Bad Backlinks – links that are obtained from cheap sites. They never do any good to your website but instead will penalize your website in the search engines.

How Do Backlinks Affect SEO Ranking?

Backlinks not only affect rankings in SERP’s (Search Engine Results Page) but also helps in building your page rank to some extent. Page rank means that the website has high authority; relevance means the website is in the same niche as you. Google, Bing and Yahoo search engines do run the web. These search engine crawls the website by revisiting after a certain time.

What are DoFollow vs. NoFollow Backlinks?

This is the actual anatomy of a backlink. When a site page gets an inbound link, which is a hyperlink pointing to that page, the page gets a small SEO boost. Think of a link as a point, and the more links you have, the more points. A no follow link is a link that does not count as a point in the page’s favor, does not boost PageRank, and doesn’t help a page’s placement in the SERPs. The important distinction between these two backlinks is that they play a huge factor in terms of ranking in search engines.

A DoFollow link will count as a vote for your website, while a NoFollow link will not.

How can we differentiate?

By looking at the HTML code by right clicking on a link and selecting “inspect element”.

A DoFollow link is formulated like this:

<a href= “URL”>Link Text</a>

A NoFollow link is formulated like this:

<a href=”URL” rel=” nofollow”>Link Text</a>

A hardcore cheating of Google’s algorithm to rank content to the top of the SERPS (search engine results page). If not being careful Google will find out if your Backlinks are genuine or not. If they out, your site will be penalized from ranking and of course will be banned.
  • White Hat SEO – refers to the usage of optimization strategies, techniques and tactics that focus on a human audience opposed to search engines and completely follows search engine rules and policies.
  • Grey Hat SEO – Is less aggressive than black hat and is more aggressive than white hat. Doing it correctly would refrain from suffering any consequences from Google.
