HOW TO OPTIMIZE YOUR IMAGES FOR SEO

Did you know that you can optimize your images for SEO? Yes, you can! That means you can use your images to help improve your search engine ranking. Unfortunately, a lot of bloggers aren’t aware of this, and are actually missing out on getting free traffic to their blogs.

What is SEO? SEO simply stands for search engine optimization. It is the processing of optimizing your content so that you can get organic traffic for your blog from search engines like Google and Yahoo.

  1. GIVE YOUR IMAGES ALT TEXT (ALTERNATIVE TEXT)

 

If you upload an ice cream to your blog, it’s clear to you and to your readers that the image is an ice cream.

 

However, search engines can’t actually see your images, so they use your alternative text (alt text) to be able to determine what the image is.

 

Here’s how you can edit your images alt text, in your media library (Media > Library), click on your image and place a short description of the image in the “alt text” box.

 

  1. GIVE YOUR IMAGE A TITLE

 

It’s a NO for you to keep your images default in title such as (IMG_5476) when uploading to your blog.

 

It is important for you to give a descriptive file name of your image when you save it to your computer.

 

Here’s how to name your image title in WordPress, go to your media library (Media > Library), click on the image, and insert your title in the title box.

 

Also, you can edit your title and alt text within your post by going in to edit the post and clicking on the image you want to name next click on the pencil button and simply title and alt text.
